Salted Coffee
Specialty
Cà Phê Muối – Salt Coffee
Vietnamese salt coffee from the Huế tradition. The intensity of Robusta meets the sweet counterpoint of salty whipped cream — a surprising and authentically Vietnamese taste experience.
Ingredients
- 22 g dark roasted robusta grind
- 80 ml hot water (approx. 95 °C)
- 60 ml heavy cream
- 2 tbsp condensed milk
- ¼ tsp sea salt
- Ice cubes (optional)
Instructions
- Place the phin filter on top of the cup. Add coffee grounds and level the surface.
- Pour 30 ml of hot water, let bloom for 20–30 seconds.
- Fill with the remaining water, let it drip through for about 4 minutes.
- Whisk heavy cream, condensed milk, and sea salt into a thick, foamy mixture.
- Pour coffee into a glass (+ ice if desired). Spoon the salty cream on top to float.
- Serve without stirring — drink through the cream.
Tips
Do not substitute robusta with arabica — bitterness is essential for the contrast. The amount of salt can be increased up to ½ tsp for a stronger contrast.
